ONE TOUGH
TUB
On the equipment list of every caravanner
and camper, you’ll find storage tubs. Portable
air-compressor, first-aid kit, tools and tent
pegs… they all need to be stored somewhere.
Recently, I had the opportunity to try a couple
of Expedition134 boxes. For about four
months, they followed me everywhere, from
my family camping trips and into the bush for
reviews of caravans and camper trailers.
The first thing I noticed: with one third-row
seat in my MU-X raised, they fit the cargo
area off to the side nicely, with one stacking
neatly on top of the other. They interlock when
stacked, though they will still need to be tied
down – reinforced points for tie-down straps
are moulded into the design in each corner.
With a 55L internal volume, there are larger
tubs on the market, sure, but I found the size
to be more than adequate for my needs.
Being injection-moulded, rather than roto-
moulded, these 3.95kg Expedition134 boxes
have proven as tough and reliable as I expected.
These lockable boxes also have weather seals,
meaning they can be left out in the rain, if
necessary, and will keep the goods inside dry.
Open Sky Touring, the company behind the
boxes, says that water won’t pool on the lids,
and I can attest that this is indeed the case.
With smooth, flat internal walls and floor, the
boxes are also easy to clean – a quick wipe
with a damp sponge is all that’s needed.

The box, which uses no metal parts, is
available in a range of four colours, and if
you have more than one of each colour, you
can mix and match by swapping the lids from
different-coloured boxes, giving you a handy
reference for what’s in each.
Finally, while I’m not done with them yet, I have
to say that the Expedition134 boxes are proving
to be the toughest storage containers I’ve owned.
