RV FEATURE
TEMPERATURE SENSORS
Let’ s be honest: it can be a little difficult to maintain ideal temperatures in the van, even in the fridge. Simply pick yourself up a couple of temperature sensors and place them around the areas of the van you’ d like to keep an eye on.
There are plenty available from numerous brands, including Kings and BMPRO. They’ ll connect via Bluetooth to a digital display that you can mount somewhere in your van, and some will even send the data to an app on your phone.
Are they crucial? No. But are they helpful? I think so.
SELF-RECOVERIES
In issue 89 of GoRV, travel writer Carolyne Jasinski shared her story, in which she and her partner bogged their motorhome on a sandy track in a remote area of the Northern Territory. They had no means of recovery and their only hope of communicating with the outside world was the SOS function on their smartphones. Were it not for that, the outcome would have been very different.
The SOS function allowed them to make contact with the police, but it was ultimately a local land owner who found them and gave them a tow out of the bog.
The lesson: aside from carrying a decent means of communication, think about how you would affect a self-recovery. Traction boards on sandy terrain are worth their weight in gold.
