JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN …
If I can put my‘ dad hat’ on for a moment, I’ ll share the advice I give my kids, particularly my eldest son, who has just turned 18 and is off in his Hilux camping when he can: just because you can, doesn’ t mean you should.
This advice applies particularly to the roads on which you travel. Sure, you could drive down that sandy track to see where it leads, but that doesn’ t mean you should, especially if you aren’ t carrying recovery gear. Sure, you could attempt to drive through that watery boghole for the sake of some 4WDing thrills, but that doesn’ t mean you should, especially if you don’ t know what’ s beneath the water and you can’ t afford to fix the damage that might ensue.
I’ ll take my dad hat off now. Thanks for indulging me!
CONTROVERSIAL TIP?
I’ m going to suggest something that some might find a little controversial. When choosing a new van, aim for the towing capacity of your tow vehicle to be well and truly greater than the loaded wight of the van, rather than being bang-on or within cooee. Generally speaking, the heavier the tow vehicle relative to the weight of the van, the better, making it harder for the‘ tail to wag the dog’, so to speak.
