DOUSE IT PROPERLY!
A quick reminder, folks. When you’ re camping and you have a camp fire, douse it with water when you’ re done. I saw some campers recently just chuck a few shovelfuls of dirt on theirs before leaving, which is a good way to ensure someone is injured. A fire that hasn’ t been doused with water will retain extreme heat for hours.

LETTERS FROM THE ROAD
enjoy the Victorian winter again. As I write this, some nine weeks after the theft, my Cruiser still hasn ' t been located.
The take-away from this: I had an agreed-value insurance policy. It was expensive but it sure paid for itself. The RACV settled about three weeks after the theft. My advice: adopt a visual anti-theft device such as a steering wheel lock.
+ FIRE UP ABOUT SAFETY!
PINCHED CRUISER
I took my Land Cruiser 200 2019 VX, which was set-up to tow my threetonne van, to my local shopping centre in the Latrobe Valley, Vic, to get lunch and go grocery shopping. I walked out some time later to find my vehicle missing. There was some broken glass from the driver’ s window being smashed. Apparently, push-button start vehicles are easy to steal. In the driver’ s cabin is an ODB2 port that allows people to attach a scanner, which can be purchased off the internet, to start your vehicle.
I haven ' t enjoyed a cold Victorian weather for a few years. I now have a six-month or so wait on a replacement vehicle so I get to
There are so many more vehicle thefts than you might realise, and they are not reported in the news, unless there is a police chase. Now to get another blanket. Travel safe!

G’ day Warren! Oh no, what terrible news! As someone who travels around the Latrobe Valley frequently, I’ ll now be extra mindful. Your suggestion of a visible antitheft device is a good idea. I’ m glad to hear your insurance was paid out promptly. Stay warm, and good luck setting up your new Cruiser when it arrives! – Ed
