TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
On a recent trip through South Australia, we ran into a friendly couple who said we had to visit Clare Valley. We hadn’ t originally planned to stop there, but we decided to trust their advice, and it turned out to be a good decision.
We booked into Clare Valley Caravan Park( not to be confused with the nearby Discovery Parks Clare Valley). While Discovery Parks looked fantastic, especially for families, we were after a quieter experience. Clare Valley Caravan Park had all the essentials, with peaceful surroundings and friendly staff, without the jumping pillows or play equipment. Trust me, when you’ re in Clare Valley and have spent the day wine tasting, the last thing you want is to be woken up by excited kids( or adults) bouncing around at sunrise. All jokes aside, it was a great base, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
When we arrived in town, our first stop was the Clare Valley Information Centre. The staff there told us about some live jazz happening that afternoon at Mr. Mick Cellar Door( and restaurant), located right along the iconic Riesling Trail. Mr. Mick offers a mix of classic and modern wines, and they’ re open for tastings. We arrived to find the sun shining, the lawn slowly filling up with locals and travellers, and a talented jazz singer belting out smooth tunes.
They were fully booked, but because it was just the two of us – and our dog Twyla – they managed to squeeze us onto the lawn. We ordered some pizzas and a couple of glasses of wine. During her break, the singer came over to chat with us after spotting us filming. She was lovely to talk to and genuinely interested in our travels. Our visit made for a memorable afternoon.
