RV FEATURE
The ' combiner ' is a two-in-one cable that provides a data and power connection to the Starlink Mini dish / router.
There are some aftermarket kits available with Anderson plugs, etc., that claim to address the voltage drop issue with Starlink Mini, but COSMO Mini is intended to be a reliable and complete solution.
However, Cowfish Technologies has just released an IP67-rated weatherproof through-the-wall connection point specifically designed to accept the barrel plug of the cable that comes with Starlink Mini – you can leave it plugged in rain, hail or shine.
To power the Cosmo Mini kit, you get a power cable with blank ends that could be wired directly to the fuse panel, or you could opt for a power cable with an Anderson plug or a cigarette style plug. This weatherproof connection point is available as a standalone product or can be purchased as part of the COSMO Mini Premium Kit starting at $ 199.
The COSMO Mini now also comes with a remote control system – particularly useful for turning Starlink Mini on or off if you’ ve had to mount the COSMO Mini in a awkward position in the van, such as under the bed. The remote control is a $ 45 option available separately.
The next release from Cowfish to talk about: the Starlink Mini Integration Kit and Access Point.
“ The Starlink Mini dish is a great little dish because of its form factor and the fact that it doesn’ t have an external router,” Cowfish Technologies’ Evert Smit told GoRV.“ But that’ s also part of its Achilles Heel. If you’ ve had to place the dish far away from the van because there’ s a lot of tree cover or other obstructions, you could end up with slow wi-fi.”
Further, as Evert said, some vans have a lot of metal in them, acting like a kind of Faraday Cage that blocks the wi-fi signal.
