TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
Our accommodation was just a short drive away at the Blackwood Mineral Springs Caravan Park. It’ s pet-friendly, laid-back, and full of charm. The sound of the nearby river was relaxing, and after setting up at our powered site, I went exploring. Just across the bridge and past the mineral springs, I hiked up to a nearby lookout. The trail was short and a bit steep in places, but the views, birds, and wildlife made it worth the effort.
That evening, we enjoyed a classic campfire under the stars. In the morning, we packed up early and headed to the Blackwood Post Office Café for breakfast. True to its reputation, the homemade slices were incredible, and again, Twyla was welcome on the back deck. We sipped coffee by the fire drum, soaking up the serenity.
Before heading home, we wandered through the Blackwood Cemetery, set on a hillside with sweeping mountain views. We found the 1878 grave of‘ Little Doaty’, a poignant reminder of the town’ s Gold Rush past, and took a moment at the historic Chinese graves that speak to Blackwood’ s multicultural history. Our last stop was Martin Street Coffee Roasters, where we grabbed one final coffee and a slice for the road. Just over an hour from Melbourne, Blackwood offers nature, history, hospitality, and the kind of soul that lingers long after you leave. It ' s a little town with a big heart, and we look forward to our return.
