RV FEATURE
Spinal Life Australia peer support team leader and mother of three, Katie Hammond, is a camping connoisseur, a passionate advocate and mentor who draws from her own lived experience of spinal cord injury.
After her spinal cord injury, Katie turned her journey into a source of strength, not just for herself, but for others facing similar challenges. With more than 15 years in peer support, she now leads by example, showing others that life after injury can still be full, active, and empowering. Known for her positivity and love of pushing boundaries, Katie is helping others to navigate the emotional, physical, and practical realities of life with a disability.
She strongly believes in the power of prioritising mental health, selfadvocacy, and staying open to new possibilities, even if it means doing things differently. Whether it’ s encouraging someone to try adaptive camping or simply sharing her story in hospitals and regional communities, Katie’ s message is clear: your injury doesn’ t define your life – how you respond to it does.
