7. UNFINISHED PLY
Perhaps I’ m being too picky, but hear me out. You’ ve spent $ 70,000 on a new caravan, it’ s your pride and joy, and when you remove the dinette cushions to access the storage space beneath, you’ re met with rough, unfinished ply. Would you be disappointed? I would.
It’ s the classic‘ out of site, out of mind’ mentality, a cost and / or time-cutting measure employed by the manufacturer that they believe will go mostly unnoticed on a dayto-day basis.
That said, most manufacturers have lifted their game in this respect, and you’ ll find properly laminated and edge-banded ply for the seat bases and other areas of the van, such as under the bed or inside overhead lockers.
A good suspension setup, with no terminal blocks or other things that could snag and cause a problem. Note, too, the mudflap setup towards the A-frame.
A very welcome setup on a Goldstream. Note that the grey water outlet is protected from beneath.
8. ELECTRIC BRAKE WIRING
To this day, I still occasionally see cheap terminal blocks dangling in the breeze where the wiring for the electric brakes enters the wheel hub. A better solution, and one that I see much more often these days, is wiring inside conduit running directly to the wheel hub. What’ s the big deal? Well, is that terminal block not a little vulnerable? What would happen if it caught on something and the wiring severed? I’ ve also even seen them sitting a little too close to the suspension coil for comfort, and who knows what would happen if it snagged on it, but it would possibly result in loss of braking to that wheel.
