LONG-TIME CARAVANNER ALISON HUTH HAS JOINED THE GORV TEAM AND WILL SHARE HER ADVENTURES EACH MONTH AS SHE AND HER HUSBAND, PETER, EMBARK ON ONE OF THEIR FINAL BIG TRIPS AROUND AUSTRALIA …
Peter and I have been caravanning for 20-plus years. We’ ve been to heaps of places over the years. But there are four bits of Highway 1 that Peter hasn’ t travelled. These are: Broome to Kununurra; Borroloola to Normanton; Exmouth to Port Headland; and Geraldton to Carnarvon.
We’ ve talked about how to do those four bits – a one-off trip to just see them, or do the full lap. In all simplicity, I said,“ Well, why not do a lap as my trial farewell tour?”
So we stopped talking and started planning. We planned to leave home in Queensland in late January. But before we could we had to do a few basic things such as get the car and van serviced. Then we had the‘ fun’ of cleaning them both and getting everything into the van that we would need for our 21,000km eight-month trip!
