Parked up on Curtis Island. What could be better?
Toasting my chilled fingers around a campfire, staring into the coals, is nothing short of warming to mind and heart. To share a drink, a yarn, an experience with fellow travellers, strangers, and newfound friends can be lifechanging and the dawn of a new adventure, new learnings, and a newfound richness within a land seen as the lucky country …
The knowledge that I can take in all these sights, experience all these feelings in the safety of my own country, visa-free, no border restrictions, is satisfying, comforting and a privilege.
Yes, it’ s a privilege to experience so much in my own backyard. A privilege not to be taken for granted, not to be wasted, not to be missed.
I get it, fuel is expensive, as is food, accommodation and many other commodities compared to Third World countries. But, knowing I’ m safe, welcomed and free is priceless.
My advice to young and old: go forth, make your own tracks and experience what our great land has to offer. It’ s safe, easily accessible, unlike anywhere else in the world, supports our locals and promotes your own learning and yearning for more. Australia … you’ re standing in it!
