RV FEATURE
NOTHING RATTLES TIGHT!
If you intend to do any offroad caravanning, you will soon learn that it is a very good idea to grab a couple of screwdrivers and go around your van to make sure no screws have come loose. We have, fortunately, not had too many issues, but we did see a few screws in the windows work themselves loose over time.
Sometimes it’ s the screws that you cannot see that will catch you out. We had a member in one of our Facebook groups share a picture of a dislodged fridge after they had traversed a reasonably rough track.
The fridges in caravans are secured with screws through the wall. You can’ t see them as they are usually covered by a plastic cap to blend in with the rest of the fridge’ s interior. As you can see in the picture, they were lucky the damage wasn’ t too bad.
Everyone told me this spring was likely broken. It just needed to be pushed back onto the retaining cap.
Not what you want to see in your van. Rough roads can cause the securing screws to come loose.
WATER PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE
This is a constant source of frustration that every caravanner will experience. These pressurelimiting valves are generally located where the town water inlet is. They are there to reduce the water pressure to the van. This protects the plastic hoses and fittings from bursting.
The issue with these valves is that they are notoriously unreliable. The first sign of trouble is reduced water pressure inside the van, particularly in the shower.
Most people will just replace them, but at around $ 70 each, after you’ ve replaced one or two, you will want to come up with an alternative.
