There’ s a moment every caravanner knows too well, the one where after a long day on the road you’ re parked in a stunning free camp, eager to have that coffee and you realise you can’ t actually use half the appliances that make life comfortable. No coffee machine. No microwave. No hairdryer. No toast.
For years, that was me, I have a perfectly good caravan. Solid, reliable, well loved but going offgrid always felt like stepping back in time. Unless we were plugged into a caravan park’ s mains power, all the modern conveniences stayed tucked away in their cupboards and unable to be used. And as for generators, those days are gone. Too noisy, too smelly, too many restrictions, and too many dirty looks from neighbours who just want to enjoy their serenity.
