TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
The afternoon was spent wandering through Violet Town’ s picturesque streets. We popped into the local art gallery and museum, displaying memorabilia celebrating the town’ s history, and admired the beautifully preserved heritage buildings. Visiting in autumn made it even more special, with golden and amber leaves carpeting the streets. Twyla was in her element, happily running through the piles of leaves while we enjoyed the slower pace of country life.
On our walk back to the caravan park, we took a different route to find the site of Violet Town’ s famous community market. Unfortunately, we had misread the dates and discovered the market wasn’ t on that weekend. While it was disappointing, it simply gave us another reason to return. For anyone planning a visit, the Violet Town Community Market is held on the second Saturday each month. It’ s worth noting that, apart from service dogs, pets aren’ t permitted inside the market.
That evening, we settled back at the caravan park and cooked dinner in the van before enjoying a peaceful night under the stars. The following morning greeted us with crisp country air and sunshine, so before heading home we wandered back into town for breakfast at one of the local cafés.
One of the highlights was spotting the impressive Shane Warne mural painted on the exterior wall of the Violet Town Café. The artwork reflects the close friendship Warne’ s parents shared with the café owners, adding another interesting story to the town’ s rich character. Sitting outside with a coffee and breakfast while admiring the mural was the perfect way to end our stay.
Violet Town may be small, but it has a way of leaving a lasting impression. Between its fascinating history, welcoming locals, heritage streetscapes and relaxed country charm, it’ s an ideal destination for a weekend escape or even a leisurely day trip from Melbourne. We left already planning our return, this time making sure it coincided with market day!
