RV FEATURE
As a first-time user, I probably worried more than necessary about our supplies. I was conscious of how much battery we were using, how much water remained and how quickly we might fill the toilet. I didn’ t really have a sense of how long the various systems would last, so initially we were quite conservative.
In practice, having those facilities was what allowed us to stay comfortably in a remote location for longer than we otherwise would have with two small children. The fridge was particularly useful. Being able to carry enough fresh food for the family without worrying about ice or eskies made a considerable difference.
Having the right vehicle made all the difference!
WHAT WE’ D DO DIFFERENTLY
Some of the other equipment was probably less necessary. The RV came with crockery and cutlery, but if we did the trip again we would keep it simple and bring lightweight or plastic plates, bowls and utensils. With small children, there wasn’ t much benefit in having anything more elaborate.
Sleeping arrangements required a little experimentation. The main electronic bed( which sits above the rear dinette) was easy to lower and raise, and making it up was straightforward, although having the correct-sized sheets is something worth checking before leaving home.
We had also brought a cot for our 2.5-year-old. Once inside the RV, however, it became clear that setting it up would require a fair amount of valuable space. More importantly, we knew there was very little chance she would agree to sleep in it once she realised we were right beside her. The cot stayed packed away and she slept with us instead.
