TEN YEARS IS A LONG TIME IN ANY INDUSTRY BUT, FOR THE CARAVANNING COMMUNITY, A LOT HAS HAPPENED DURING THAT TIME. HERE ARE THE MOST INFLUENTIAL THINGS THAT HAVE CHANGED CARAVANNING OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS:
1. The awareness of weights and towing limits. I reckon if you asked many caravanners the ATM of their caravan 10 years ago, most wouldn’ t have known what you were talking about. Today, everyone talks about it. Some of our most popular articles over the years have been about explaining weight restrictions on tow vehicles, how they work and how to ensure your rig is legal on the road.
2. Construction of caravans. Ten years ago, most caravans were made from a meranti timber frame and aluminium cladding, or‘ stick and tin’ construction, as it’ s known. Today, aluminium frames and composite panels have become the norm. They have made caravans lighter and stronger while being less prone to water leaks( particularly fibreglass sandwich panel vans).
