Knowing your ball weight. You know it’s
important. I know it’s important. The bigger
question is, how to measure it. The drop hitch, however, comes with an
integrated 50mm towball and so it’s only
suitable for vans with ball couplings.
Portable scales specifically designed to measure
a caravan’s towball download are available but
they can be fiddly. And if you’re not especially
careful, the coupling can slip off the scale,
causing the A-frame to crash to the ground. Lastly, the Weigh Safe is available in towball-
only format. This product is comprised of
a special towball that can be fitted to most
standard towbars. Instead of the nut you’d
find on any standard towball, the Weigh Safe
towball has a scale that screws to the towball’s
threaded shaft – a spring washer is included
too, of course.
But the Weigh Safe range of portable ball
weight scales, which is tested and made
available in Australia by Hitch-Tek, removes
all risks, adds immeasurable convenience, and
throws in a healthy dose of peace of mind.
The Weigh Safe is available in three variants: a
drop hitch, a fixed-height hitch featuring a 2in
drop, and a stand-alone towball. Each has a
built-in scale, so every time you hitch up you’ll
have an instant ball weight measurement.
Each Weigh Safe variant is made of aircraft
alloy and is ADR-approved. Now there’s no
excuses for not knowing your van’s ball weight.
The drop hitch is adjustable to suit vans of all
ride heights – it is available with a 4in, 6in or
8in drop. It will suit all standard hitch receivers.
The fixed-height Weigh Safe – which has a 2in
drop – will also suit standard hitch receivers.
And the good news is that this unit has been
tested, ADR-certified and approved for use
with couplings such as the DO35. The fixed-
