RV FEATURE ROOF RACK AND AWNING REVIEW “ THE PIONEER PIONEER TRAY To cart the camping table, bikes and sometimes the swag, I chose the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Tray roof rack. Made from aluminium and reinforced nylon, the Pioneer Tray has a load rating of 100kg and is compatible with a range of Rhino-Rack accessories, such as jerry can holders and shovel mounts. I particularly like that each of the Pioneer Tray’s rails are designed to accept special channel nuts, eliminating the need to drill your own bolt holes for accessories. To mount my 120Ah solar panel to the rack, I simply clamped it in place with some aluminium brackets, each bolted in place using a channel nut. It’s hard to fault the workmanship of the Pioneer Tray. Made from non-corrosive materials, it won’t rust or fade – Rhino-Rack says it tests its products extensively in the environment, and that it’s suitable for extreme offroad conditions. TRAY HAS A LOAD RATING OF 100KG. ” On my first drive after fitment, I noticed a slight increase in wind noise, but nothing particularly intrusive. In fact, I no longer notice it. Is fitting this roof rack a DIY job? It depends. If you’re confident and handy on the tools, and proceed slowly, then yes. Otherwise, have it fitted by an accredited Rhino-Rack dealer. Rhino-Rack supplies roof racks and the relevant fixings to suit most popular 4WD makes and models – the way it mounts to the roof changes from one model to the next. The MU-X LS-U requires special tracks – supplied by Rhino-Rack – that needed to be riveted to the roof. The roof rack’s leg mounts fit to these tracks. / 41
