RV FEATURE In terms of saving fuel, it's worth experimenting with the best gear for towing. SLOW DOWN Everyone heaps it on caravanners for driving too slowly in an effort to save fuel. We totally ignore this as we’ve found that it really doesn’t matter how fast we drive – everyone wants to pass the caravan. So rather than just trying to keep pace with everyone, we drive around 5km/h below the posted speed limit. This gives everyone a safe chance to pass us and we save fuel at the same time. REDUCE WEIGHT We used to keep our water tanks full and store enough food for a month.  We quickly realised this was false economy.  Quite simply, more weight equals more fuel used. We now only fill our water tanks when we know we will be free- camping for an extended period of time and we only buy enough food to last until our next destination.  Not only do we save fuel but we spread our spend across communities. Only buy enough food to last until the next destination/town. / 43
