If you’re looking further ahead, you can start to gently accelerate to compensate for the oncoming change in grade. CHANGE THE ENGINE OIL Towing a heavy caravan puts a lot of additional stress on the engine.  As a result, the engine oil’s effectiveness will deteriorate quicker than it would with normal driving, increasing fuel use. By changing our oil more regularly, we have noticed a decrease in fuel use by up to 3L/100km. conditions. Where possible, we try to get moving early in the morning and be at our next destination before the middle of the day. JUST DRIVE NORMALLY I know this will sound strange but we found that when we try to drive economically, we actually use more fuel. By focusing on the fuel gauge, we end up driving too slowly in too high a gear. This makes the engine labour unnecessarily and increases fuel consumption.
