RV FEATURE A fuel pre-filter is highly recommended. "EXTRA FUEL FILTRATION WILL PROVIDE INVALUABLE PROTECTION TO YOUR EXPENSIVE ENGINE." 4. Fit a ScanGuage. There is an endless list of accessories you can fit to your tow vehicle but by far one of the most useful will be a ScanGuage or similar product. It plugs into your vehicle's ODBI port and it can monitor a variety of engine performance parameters. Most importantly for offroad towing will be automatic transmission temperature. Towing puts an enormous strain on the tow vehicle and towing offroad increases that strain exponentially. Your transmission will be working overtime in these conditions. Rather than frying the transmission, you can keep an eye on the temperature and, if it gets too hot, you can reduce your speed, drop down a gear, and drive accordingly. 32 \ 5. Fit a fuel pre-filter. Driving on outback roads means you will purchase fuel from remote areas. The risk of purchasing contaminated fuel increases simply because these fuel stations are not used as often as those in the cities. A high quality additional fuel filter that incorporates a water trap will provide increased protection to your engine should you end up with a bad dose of fuel. You could also be unfortunate enough to fill up from a station when they are low on reserves and you end up taking fuel from the bottom of their tanks. This is where all the rubbish, water and sediment settles. This is the last thing you want going through your expensive engine. The extra fuel filtration will provide invaluable protection in these circumstances.
