RV MAIL LETTERS FROM THE ROAD DANGEROUS ROAD We agree with Peter Thackeray (GoRV #30) on his trip up the Gregory Development Road and facing road trains on the one-lane sections. We guess he was heading to the lava tubes. We were travelling eastbound from Croydon on the Gulf Savannah Way in April 2017 on a section approximately 9km long of single lane just before dropping into Georgetown when I just caught a flash of blue coming over the rise. We had a camper trailer then, which allowed me to call the driver up and tell him to stay on the road as we were lighter. The rig, three trailers long or 52m, went by and he thanked us, then the radio chat laid blame on the Queensland Government as they have totally forgotten the area between Burke & Wills Roadhouse to Normanton. As we know (unfortunately) the next accident is just around the corner, no matter how hard we try to avoid it, it’s just that concentration is required a lot more while towing. Stuart Wragg Via email PRADO: THE GREATEST OFFENDER In your article on towing weight problems (GoRV #31), why do you not mention the greatest offender of illegal towing weights, the Prado? Any Prado towing a dual-axle caravan of 22ft or more is more than likely illegal with the Prado having a legal limit of 2500kgs. Surely caravanners should be warned of this common occurrence in an article talking about the problem of GVM and towing capacity. Chris Gibson Via email The truck driver’s last words were that the state premier would not even know what the roads are like up there. In this day and age, it's a disgrace for Queensland! Abbie and John Day Via email THE FOCUS FACTOR I just read about your encounter with a tree while towing (GoRV #30). At times we take driving for granted, especially day to day, but when towing, as you say, there are just so many more things to consider or be aware of. The Prado has some issues as a tow vehicle, too. + GCM: WORST OFFENDERS If you have an opinion or thought about the RV lifestyle, or about this digital magazine, we’d like to hear it!
