FUTURE SOLAR PANELS It is becoming increasingly clear that the era of silicon-based solar panels is coming to its end. The theoretical maximum efficiency, as noted above, is about 22%. One of the most promising materials is a calcium titanium oxide-like mineral known as ‘perovskite’. Prototype cells are already 27% efficient, and 37% now seems feasible. Please note that (formally) a solar panel is a large array of solar modules. The term ‘solar panel’ is used here as that’s what almost everyone calls them! Collyn Rivers is an ex-research engineer with a particular interest in recreational vehicles. He has written extensively on most technical matters relating to the field, from solar to correct caravan weight distribution and towing dynamics. The RV Books website, featuring many of his articles and his books for sale, is a treasure trove of information for anyone interested in the RV lifestyle, from new vanners to experienced hands alike.
