BELOW ARE JUST SOME OF THE OTHER ENTRIES… ON THE ROAD AGAIN Just love having our state’s borders open again so that we can finally get out and about. Just saw that the cruise ship industry is bouncing back; I couldn’t think of anything worse than being surrounded by people all day. Give me the wide, beautiful outdoors any and every day. That’s what Australia is all about. Tony Dudfield CLOSE TO RETIREMENT We are four years away from retirement and travelling with our van. My husband had an accident at work 11 months ago and our super has taken a hit so we wont have as much as we thought to live on and any little thing we can save on will help us greatly. Donna Paterson ROOFTOP PHOTOGRAPHY I have been thinking about getting a Rola Titan roof rack to replace my existing setup as sometimes the opportunity arises for photos to be taken at roof level. One of these would be a great platform for this. Robert Sinfield KEEPING FREE CAMPS OPEN With the recent closure of the free camp in Mt Barker, WA, it again brings up the conversation of whether free camps are beneficial to small towns. With this age of internet, word quickly gets around to the nomadic travellers when a local council authority closes down a free camp in favour of supporting a caravan park. We full-time travellers spend our money in their food stores, their butchers, their bakeries, their servos, and even their post offices, newsagencies and mechanical/tyre workshops. So why do these councils make these decisions that cut their nose off to spite their face? To sacrifice all those dollars spread around their community in order to redirect a fraction of that precious economy to a single caravan park owner makes absolutely no sense! We need to keep up the pressure on councils by showing them how much they would lose if they closed their free camp. It can be really as simple as writing to the local council in charge of the free camp and enclosing copies of your receipts. There are lots of great apps that turn a photo of your receipt into a PDF, so simply write an email thanking the town for their free camp and their hospitality, and include the copies of the receipts. We the travellers need to be proactive in keeping our free camps open. Who wouldn't want to win a Titan Tray roof rack? Christine Moore aka The Travelling Seamstress.
