RV MAIL BELOW ARE JUST SOME OF THE OTHER ENTRIES… PICKING UP THE TRASH Freedom camps are essential for RV travellers, in particular grey nomads such as my wife and I, who do not wish to pay for the expensive facilities (such as swimming pools and children's play equipment) in caravan parks that we don't use. People who want these freedom camps closed down complain to the shire councils about the rubbish left lying around. To help minimise the complaints, we purchased inexpensive longhandled picking-up devices and when we have set-up camp, we spend 15-30 minutes collecting any rubbish and then place it in the bins that are usually nearby. If all freedom-camp users did this, the number of sites around Australia being closed down would be reduced. Michael Lennon LOOKING FORWARD TO FULL-TIMING We love taking our caravan away at every opportunity, and with a teenager in his last year of high school with his own car and part time job, we find more opportunities now. But alas, during Covid, and until we can retire, we have to find a few days here and there. Our favourite is free-camping and we try never to go on the same road twice and especially stop in the small towns, buy petrol there and usually test the bakery out. We are looking forward to when we can do it full-time and also the end of Covid so we can safely see the rest of the country. Karen Sorbello LOWER THE PRESSURE I have travelled many outback roads towing my caravan. The Gibb River Road, Cape York and many more. I have never had one puncture and the secret is lowering the tyre pressure to around 20psi and driving to the conditions of the road. This will make your trip a lot more enjoyable. John Bartel / 05
