DOOR SECURITY SOLUTION
I have heard of a few instances in which the caravan door has flown open when travelling , especially on gravel roads . When the door is hinged on the right , the consequences of this are not usually good .
Although there are expensive lockable safety catches available , I installed two stainless saddle brackets and link them with a velcro strap when travelling . This is an effective $ 5 solution .
Also , a long-handled shovel is a very handy item to have when travelling but can be attractive to thieves when left on the roof of the tow vehicle .
A lot of vans have a large toolbox on the drawbar . I utilised the inside of the lid of mine for my shovel by securing two clamps there with Sikaflex . The shovel is secure and easy to access .
HOT WATER – AT THE A-FRAME !
We all know how difficult it is to wash up those items , such as your barbecue , when it ’ s time to pack up , and how handy it would be to have a hot water tap outside .
Well , maybe the more upmarket vans will already have this option , but for vans that don ’ t , here ’ s a solution . I tapped into the hot water line on the hot water service , as well as the line to the tap on the A-frame , and installed a three way valve that provides the option to have cold through to warm or hot water available at the outside tap .
It ’ s also great when it ’ s time to have a warm rinse off after the beach .
