LETTERS FROM THE ROAD
LOAD PLACEMENT
You forgot to mention the most important / dangerous mistake when towing( GoRV # 4) and that is the incorrect distribution of weight. It doesn’ t just matter how much weight you carry but it does matter where you put it.
Wayne Sykes Via email
You’ re right, Wayne. As you’ d probably know, the heaviest items should be centred over the axles. And always load more towards the front than the rear. A caravan or camper trailer needs some nose weight for stability. – Ed
HOW SAFE ARE SAFETY CHAINS?
After reading your article on safety chains( GoRV # 3), I wonder if safety chains are really safe.
Has anyone experienced a loss of connection between van hitch and tow vehicle at speed? Anyone who has experienced a sudden swerve correction will know what it feels like to feel the whip of the tow load. This leads me to believe if the situation arrives it is probable that the result will be more catastrophic for caravan and tow vehicle and its occupants than a runaway van careering off the highway.

DISCOVERING THE PODCAST
First up, let me say‘ love the show’( Rambling On podcast), which is surprising because I have no( or now didn’ t) have any interest in camping or caravanning. I probably still don ' t but you guys have softened me a little in that direction.
My wife( Cata) and I were driving into town and listening to you. We found we couldn ' t turn you off and had to pay extra in the parking area for more time to hear to the end.
Regarding the coffee pod in episode 4( see what I did there? Pod … podcast … oh, never mind), I thought you might like to know my son, Adrian, goes camping and takes his professional Gaggia coffee machine with him and the family. I think it ' s called‘ glamping’ as in glamour camping. I have a great deal of respect for him so doing. We would not have visited the campsite had he not done so.
Regarding‘ dumping pods’( no pun there... or was there?), and not just that segment, hilarious though it all was, it definitely confirmed why we don ' t go camping or caravanning!
Keep it up. Look forward to hearing more about what we have chosen from which to exclude ourselves.

Thanks for your letter, Peter, and I’ m glad you’ re enjoying the show. It’ s a heck of a lot of fun to record but we really do have to keep our eye on Tim Smith! As for Paula … don’ t get me started. Actually, they’ re both fantastic. It’ s Simon Diaz we have to worry about! – Ed
