MILPARINKA

Forty two kilometres south of Tibooburra , and just a few kilometres off the Sturt Highway , is the historic town of Milparinka . Once the epicentre of the Albert goldfields , this truly is a town that time forgot ; that is , until a group of very dedicated and passionate locals and volunteers began restoring the township to its former glory .

There is an excellent campground behind the heritage precinct that offers both powered and unpowered sites , a recently opened Mining Heritage Centre , and a number of Sturt ’ s expedition historical sites to explore close by .

We left our van and followed the unsealed Mount Shannon Road for about 90km to Pincally , a 65,000ha working sheep and cattle station to overnight in its luxurious cottage accommodation and enjoy a meal with owners Zanna and Matt Gayle .

Pincally offers a range of accommodation options , including their beautifully restored shearers ’ quarters – this is truly an oasis in the outback worth experiencing !
