MU-X TOWING
I read with interest your article about the new MU-X . I have always been interested in this vehicle and was pleased to learn that Isuzu had upgraded its towing capacity . However , I quickly discovered when reading your article that the Gross Combined Mass of 5900kg limits the ability to actually tow 3500kg . I will probably still take this vehicle for a test drive and keep it on my list , but why advertise a towing capacity of 3500kg when it ’ s not really practical or realistic to tow that amount ?

Hi Eric . Yes , as we explained , if you were to hypothetically tow 3500kg with the top-end LS-T 4WD , in-vehicle payload capacity becomes limited to 225kg – enough for two passengers and maybe a little luggage .
However , I still see the towing upgrade as a plus . Sure , it might not be possible to tow 3500kg worth of caravan and stock the 4WD to the brim at the same time , but as we wrote , a better bet might be to limit the weight of the van to around 3300kg in order to increase payload capacity in the vehicle .
I ’ ve been towing with a 2018 MU- X for a few years now and it ’ s been a terrific vehicle . I ’ m looking forward to hitching up a van to the new one . – Ed
