Ignoring the line , sighting the towball itself on the screen to line up the coupling presented no such issues .
Once the van was hitched up , the Cruiser drooped 70mm at the rear and rose just 10mm at the front . The Land Cruiser ’ s tail sat higher than the front when unladen , so the vehicle was close to level with the trailer hitched up .
The use of aluminium to save weight also means you can ’ t use magnetic towing mirror attachments . The shape of the Cruiser ’ s sloping side mirrors makes it a bit difficult to secure clamp-on towing mirrors , too .
TOWING
Taking off with the heavy van behind didn ’ t actually seem much harder than when unladen . The 300 Series V6 actually gets through its turbo lag a bit quicker when pulling a load , and gets on with assertive acceleration when needed .
While the Cruiser might be good getting off the lights or cruising the suburbs with a heavy van hooked up , the acid test would be on the highway . How does this new Toyota cope with some speed ?
It turns out that the naysayers will be disappointed , because as far as towing performance is concerned , the new 300 Series is a definite step up from the 200 Series – itself no slouch lugging a van down the highway .
