TRUCKIES AND VANNERS : SHARING REST AREAS !

However , what was most evident was the fact that these new caravan owners simply did not understand the purpose of roadside rest areas . On many occasions , I witnessed caravanners pulling into rest areas for the night as an alternative to caravan parks .
When using rest areas , David Sajfar parks his rig in areas too awkward for trucks to use . " Unfortunately , most people go straight to the centre without understanding this area is for trucks ," he says .
While that ’ s okay , they clearly don ’ t understand that many truckies arrive late at night to the same rest area . With several badly parked caravans , there is no room left for trucks to park in order to get their required legal rest .
Knowledge of the rules , and being considerate of others in rest areas , is something that many new caravanners lack .
As you can see in the picture ( left ), which I took during a trip last year when we pulled into a rest area , I always park my rig near the entry to the rest area , as these spots are too awkward for truckies to use .
Unfortunately , most people go right to the middle or the very end of the rest areas because they feel there is more room there , without understanding this is for trucks .
