From Albacutya , we again headed off the main drag on back roads to Hopetoun and found a great campsite at Lake Lascelles with powered and free unpowered sites . This lake is stunning . But be warned : the campsite fills up quickly during the touring season .
ON TO PATCHEWOLLOCK
This Mallee country is simply beautiful . Jane and I love cruising around the Mallee countryside . Hopetoun has many touring options , from dropping into Wyperfield NP to visiting the Snowdrift Sand Dunes north of Albacutya . Due to our tight timing , though , we headed straight up the bitumen to Patchewollock .
The Lascelles silos depict the faces of locals Geoff and Merrilyn Horman .
The Patchewollock silo depicts local man Nick ' Noodle ' Hulland in jeans and flannel .
Patche has a great painted silo across the road from the pub . There ' s plenty of parking . This silo , painted by Fintan Magee , depicts local man Nick ‘ Noodle ’ Hulland in jeans , flannel shirt and hat – very typical of the local farmers . Completed in 2016 , the sheer size of this silo is impressive .
We left Patche early after saying howdy to the pub ' s new owners . With a friendly smile from the publicans , we sadly didn ’ t wait for lunch service as we had some ground to cover .
We followed the blacktop to Lascelles , off the Sunraysia Highway , where we found the silo painted by artist Rone in 2017 . It depicts the wise faces of locals Geoff and Merrilyn Horman . Parking is available and a short walk around the silos is simply impressive .
