FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
We would have happily camped on the peaceful Wilson River or at the Noccundra Waterhole . You can fish and swim on this tributary of Coopers Creek . You might even catch yabbies in winter !
Council toilets and showers are near the pub , just 200m from the waterhole . You ' ll also find paid powered sites , a tennis court and playground , as well as barbecue and picnic facilities . Remember to bring your own firewood , but your pets are welcome .
During our visit , we dined on some of the best burgers we ’ ve ever had . I would go back to this remote pub just for another burger , they were so very good ! The publican told me he bakes the rolls himself each morning .
This remote outpost is the second oldest hotel in Queensland to have been continually licensed . Built within the Nockatunga Station grounds , it sure does have some interesting history , including a memorial to the ill-fated Andrew Hume expedition .
The Channel Country is worth experiencing . I didn ’ t expect it to be so hilly and beautiful . We loved this section of the Natural Science Loop . Let us know if you have been there , or hope to check it out !
