Each BEAM Outback solar panel has holes in each corner for attaching the carabiners . The 11W and 20W models have metal eyelets for added strength .
The problem with all these gadgets is that the battery doesn ’ t last forever . At some point , you will need to recharge them . That may not be an issue if you ’ re at home or even out and about in your caravan where you have access to a decent power supply , but what happens if one of these devices needs recharging while you ’ re out hiking or exploring ? Well , that ’ s where these BEAM Outback portable USB solar panels can come in very handy .
WHAT ARE THEY EXACTLY ?
The BEAM Outback solar panels are like a miniaturised version of the solar charging system in your caravan or the solar blanket that keeps your car fridge running . The difference is these are specifically designed to recharge USBpowered devices while you ’ re on the move . They are small and lightweight , making them easy to store in a backpack or the glovebox of your car .
There are three models in the BEAM Outback solar panel range , with outputs from 6W all the way up to an impressive 20W .
WHAT MAKES THEM SO SPECIAL ?
For a start , the BEAM Outback solar panels are made with SunPower ETFE solar cells . If you ’ ve never heard of these types of solar cells , don ’ t worry , neither had I . I had to look them up . In a nutshell , ETFE ( Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene ) solar cells are extremely durable and resistant to environmental elements , making them far superior to the PET or laminate construction that you find in cheaper competitors .
They also have high water , UV and chemical resistance over a broad temperature range . In other words , they are made to survive our tough conditions .
