FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
When you are in the dry Pilbara region of Western Australia , how good is it to find a campground that has riverside frontage , a picturesque red gorge – and it is free ? Access is for 4WD vehicles and offroad RVs .
Camps ambassadors Dale and Tracey found a grassy spot and told us it was “ bucket-list good ”. They were glad they visited , even though they hadn ' t heard of it before checking their Camps 12 guide .
This site is located on the Oakover River . Forget facilities , but you can have a campfire , swim , kayak or canoe . It is also one for the fishers , so bring your rods .
The gorge is on 1 million acre Warrawagine Station . As a working cattle station , expect musters and crew around July and August . Dogs are permitted on leads but please be aware baiting is done in the area . You ' ll spot plenty of birds and cattle , too .
