FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
Better still , as you walk from the shuffle to the silos , you ’ ll come across an IGA supermarket , a pharmacy , and a couple of cafes .
If nothing else , you really will want to camp the night . Why ? Besides the excellent camping , the Karoonda silos light up with revolving local art .
When we visited , school students had theirs on display . It was breathtaking , similar to the ‘ ahh ’ factor of fireworks , without dogs being spooked ! The exhibition changes regularly – you can see what is coming up in their calendar .
We decided to sample dinner at the pub . There were limited menu options but they delivered a terrific burger and hotdog . The servings were generous and the service was friendly .
Pioneer Park , next door to the nature trail , is loaded with history , which you can experience for a donation . There is also a Mallee Arts pop-up gallery .
Already in 2024 , a new mural was shown off at the Community Craft Shop . Be sure to add that to your list too !
Our camp for the night was at the budget caravan park with the best showers on our trip . They have a new , impressive camp kitchen and communal fire pit that looks over the caravan park .
The other camp is behind the caravan park – it is free if you use your own facilities . We enjoyed the sunset walk into town , past the Lone Pine and war memorial .
Finally , I am so glad we stopped for a coffee on the way out of town . We walked out of Cathie ’ s Cafe with jelly cakes , Robinvale apricots , a coffee roll and a Danish . Who says RV travellers aren ’ t good for tourism ?
We stopped for morning tea down the road and savoured every bite of that jelly cake ! We were told Beryl is in her 90s and drops off trays of these delicious morsels every week . It really was all we could do not to clean off the other two ! We saved them for our mates in Berri .
