RV TRAVEL
We all have our reasons for travel . Some are doing the lap , others are touring to new destinations , many are heading back to their annual haunt , and there are plenty enjoying the company of friends and family travelling together . But the really lucky ones are enjoying the freedom of no plans and working it all out as they travel this great country .
There are so many different reasons why we all hook up and go , but there ’ s one thing that I find our family doing more often as my kids get older : hooking up the caravan , setting off and following the kid ’ s sporting events .
Yes , our kids are old enough now to be sent far and wide to compete in their chosen sports . So why not take all the creature comforts of home with us ?
After the Coffs event , it was on to the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships , with Brooke ( centre ), competing in the Masters event .
MEMORIES MADE WITH NAN AND POP
When I was 14 , I went to Adelaide for the Australian Age Swimming Championships . My grandparents , Fred and Dorothy Hanson , loaded up their old Holden and hooked up their caravan , driving all the way from Sydney to meet me in South Australia to watch me race .
It felt so special having them there for the competition , cheering me on in every event and every stroke . What was even more special was being able to stay with them in the caravan following the swimming championships . This precious time with my grandparents was wonderful . I wouldn ’ t have to share this moment with my three younger siblings or my folks . Instead , it was just the three of us in their caravan , making memories and enjoying the open road .
We explored towns throughout South Australia before slowly heading home to Manly , NSW . My nana would always do some wine and cheese tasting while I would find the best ice cream shop and beg them for a salted caramel ice cream in a double cone . As for Pop , well , he would lose himself in antique shops , always finding hidden treasures to take home to his work shed or he would continue to make modifications to the caravan to make it more comfortable .
