RV TRAVEL
After a week in Coffs Harbour surfing , jetty jumping , fishing and exploring , we hooked up once again and headed north in the Isuzu to the Sunshine Coast for the ‘ Aussies ’ – the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships . Our eldest son , Cooper , raced in the youth competition , and I enjoyed putting my Speedos back on and racing in the Masters competition at Maroochydore .
BASE CAMP
The Coromal Thrill Seeker gave us a base to work from each day and enabled us all to get some decent rest between competition events and surfing . Spending a week up there in the van was a real treat . We set up at Cotton Tree Caravan Park , a couple of hundred metres from the competition area .
This meant we could drift back and forth from the competition and come back to the caravan for meals , snacks and a rest .
We enjoyed watching the sun set each day while playing beach soccer , making new friends , and sharing our sporting and caravanning adventures with other families .
During our week away it was fantastic to be able to cook our own food and use all our own comforts from home to make the trip both comfortable and successful for our little crew of amateur athletes – not forgetting an Olympian who ’ s always happy to show my family value of living a healthy , active lifestyle and putting wellbeing first . ( I ’ ve made a note to bring my portable ice bath to the next sporting caravan adventure to allow my older body a chance to recover quicker !)
The biggest lesson my grandparents taught me in the 1990s was the importance of feeling the freedom of downtime and the wonder of adventure after sporting competitions . I ’ m so thrilled to be bringing the life lessons of 1992 forward , and making new caravanning and sporting memories with my family in 2024 and beyond .
