RV FEATURE
As you ' d expect, the interior of the new MU-X ranges from basic but comfortable for the entry-level LS- M, right up to leather-accented luxury for the LS-U and X-Terrain. The 9in infotainment screen has been redesigned and is found in all variants save for the LS-M. Satnav, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are among the features, but the inclusion of an inclinometer and especially the tyre pressure monitoring system – which is also shown on the smaller MID display on the instrument cluster – is particularly welcome. The TPMS, by the way, has been updated to now include real-time temperatures as well as pressures.
Driving the MU-X is still an enjoyable experience. The suspension on this vehicle has been slightly revised to include larger dampeners front and rear( increased piston diameter from 30mm to 32mm) with re-tuned piston and base valving. On bitumen, the suspension feels compliant and even a little plush, and certainly made for a comfortable drive in offroad conditions. It almost felt a little too good, if that’ s possible, but feedback from the road and tracks was quite minimal. The same can be said for engine and road noise.
ROUGH TERRAIN MODE
One of the key updates to the MY25 MU-X is the revised Rough Terrain Mode. First appearing in the 2021 model, it is an offroad traction control aid designed to independently limit wheel spin on each wheel. Used in conjunction with the rear diff lock that’ s standard on the vehicle, Rough Terrain Mode redistributes torque to the wheels with the most grip, maximising traction when the wheels are slipping or when wheel articulation is reducing traction to one or more wheels. In the MY25 MU-X, Rough Terrain Mode has been refined to work across a wider variety of surfaces.
