Chinese electric car brand BYD aims to have its plug-in hybrid YangWang U8 on sale in Australia by the end of 2025, though some have already been spotted on our shores.
EV SALES KEEP RISING
Figures released from the Australian Electric Vehicle Council in early April have shown that electric vehicles( EVs) accounted for more than 14 per cent of all new cars sold in Australia in March, the highest monthly share on record.
More than 15,300 battery electric vehicles( BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles( PHEV) were sold in March.
This represents 14.25 per cent of all new passenger, SUV and light commercial vehicles sold in that month, a marked increase on these vehicles’ 10 per cent market share in 2024. The first quarter of 2025 has seen EVs at 11 per cent of sales, outpacing market share from this time last year.
The data also shows that PHEV sales continue to grow, even eclipsing February’ s record sales, though they’ re still outnumbered by BEV sales.
“ Electric vehicle sales in Australia are going from strength to strength, with sales in 2025 already surpassing figures from this time last year, both in total numbers and as a proportion of overall sales,” Electric Vehicle Council CEO Julie Delvecchio said.
