The newly created Sturt ’ s Steps Touring Route follows the 1845 journey of Captain Charles Sturt and his expedition in search of an inland sea . Running for about 1100km from Broken Hill to Milparinka , Tibooburra and Cameron Corner , this is set to be one of the greatest outback drive journeys in Australia .
Tibooburra is an easy and enjoyable 330km fully bitumen drive from Broken Hill and makes a great base to explore the nearby Sturt National Park . As the northernmost town in outback New South Wales Tibooburra boasts a number of accommodation options for every traveller , including three dedicated caravan parks and camping sites for those in an RV .

CAMERON CORNER
A day trip to Cameron Corner , on the borders of Queensland , South Australia and New South Wales , is a must , and takes in a number of historical sites and markers from the Sturt expedition as well as the infamous dingo fence , which stretches 5600km between Queensland and South Australia .
Be sure to check out the Wild Deserts Project , which is reintroducing locally extinct mammals , such as the bilby , bandicoot and western quoll back into the national park , and stop for a selfie at the newly installed and very impressive sculptures of these mammals .
