TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
We also made time for a couple of wine tastings at some pet-friendly venues. At Two Hands Wines, we were able to sit on the deck with Twyla while we sampled their range. Visiting midweek meant the staff could really spend time with us, explaining the story behind each bottle. It was a relaxed experience, with beautiful vineyard views and plenty of space for Twyla to stretch her legs.
We also visited First Drop Wines. This cellar door had a hip and relaxed vibe, where we enjoyed a variety of wine options alongside some tapas food. The staff was friendly, funny, and accommodating.
Wanting to break-up the wine tastings, we also explored Gully Gardens Barossa, a family-run farm known for naturally dried fruits. The orchard has been producing fruit for more than 120 years, and it was great to see how it still uses traditional sun-drying methods. The farm shop was full of local treats, perfect for snacking on during our travels and grabbing a few presents for family.
Another morning, we stopped at Melba’ s Chocolates after receiving a free tasting board coupon from the caravan park. We couldn’ t pass that up! We grabbed coffees and some breakfast snacks, and of course, stocked up on plenty of chocolates and lollies. There was plenty of outdoor seating, making it a great stop for Twyla to run around( on lead of course).
On our last day, we watched two hot air balloons take off right next to the caravan park. A nearby traveller told me she had gone up the day before and described the sunrise views over the Barossa as unforgettable. It’ s something we didn’ t get around to doing, but it’ s on our list for next time.
Our short stay in the Barossa Valley gave us just a taste of what this beautiful region had to offer. It’ s an ideal destination for wine lovers and anyone seeking a slower pace. As we packed up the van, we raised our glasses to the Barossa and promised ourselves we’ d be back soon.
