HOW INDUS WORKS
First, there is no cassette. iNDUS instead incorporates a black water tank that is mounted beneath the van, between the chassis rails, to hold all effluent. This tank is connected to a special grey water tank that also comes with the system. There’ s also a macerator toilet, a smart module that automatically doses the system with the correct amount of additives, and let’ s not forget the discharge module, the part of the system that lets you offload the effluent stored in the black water tank in a discreet, hygienic manner.
Let’ s start at the beginning of the‘ process’. After flushing the toilet, the macerator will break the waste down before sending it to the black water tank. Thetford says the black water tank won’ t need emptying for up to seven days, though obviously it depends on usage. That said, it will hold more than conventional toilet cassettes. Further, Thetford can provide a separate 19L portable holding tank to extend the time required to visit a dump point.
Internal access to the black and grey tanks.
At a trade show earlier this year, Thetford demonstrated how the discharge module worked.
When it’ s time to empty the black tank, simply pull your motorhome( or caravan, in time) alongside the dump point, and extend the discharge module. This incorporates a special grab handle, meaning you don’ t need to touch anything‘ unhygienic’. Place the outlet over the dump point, press a button, and the contents of the black tank will discharge appropriately.
Remember that I mentioned the supplied grey water tank? Once the black tank is empty, the system will automatically pump water from the grey water tank into the black tank, along with the appropriate additives, to clean the black water tank. This water is also then discharged. Essentially, it’ s one-touch emptying and cleaning of your RV’ s wasteholding system. No‘ walk of shame’ to the dump point. No splashback. It’ s a wonder we haven’ t had this system in Australia sooner!
