TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
Recently, we visited the town of Dimboola, nestled in the Wimmera region of western Victoria, 334km north-west of Melbourne. This little gem surprised us with its creativity, character, and country hospitality.
We booked a site at the Dimboola Riverside Holiday Park, which sits alongside the Wimmera River, offering peace and tranquillity. The park had a couple of pontoons at the back, one perfect for fishing and another for launching a kayak.
Arriving late in the day, we decided to wander over to the local pub, the Victoria Hotel, Dimboola. With plenty of outdoor seating and a collection of quirky, themed rooms inside, it had a mix of tourists and locals and a great atmosphere. The menu was fantastic, and we ended up dining there several times during our stay in the town. To top it all off, we even won the hotel meat raffle during one of our visits!
On our first morning, we enjoyed how easy it was to explore the town on foot, as the caravan park was close to everything. We planned to grab a coffee and something to eat at the bakery, but we got sidetracked by the beautiful old bank building at the end of the main street, now home to the Dimboola Imaginarium.
Opened in 2019, this creative space is far more than a shop – it’ s a place where imagination runs wild. With unique products, whimsical rooms, and even the original bank vault transformed into a museum, there was so much to see. The owners kindly showed us the Airbnb upstairs, featuring four themed bedrooms, including European and African. Visiting the Dimboola Imaginarium was a highlight of our town visit, and we’ d highly recommend a stop or even an overnight stay.
The shopping in town also reflected Dimboola’ s quirky character. Dimboola Vintage offered not only vintage pieces but also steampunk-inspired clocks, curiosities, and even a talking robot. That Little Vintage Shop was like stepping back in time to the 1950s and 60s, filled with vintage and retro furniture, clothing, and old dressmaking patterns. For families, The Forbidden Forest would be a hit, with themed rooms celebrating everything from Christmas to Halloween, plus a lolly shop and a café out the back that served delicious milkshakes and thick shakes.
