TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
On an afternoon, we took a short drive to Pink Lake, a striking Salt Lake known for its vivid pink hue, caused by a salt-tolerant algae. The colour changes depending on the season, temperature, and water levels, and it’ s especially vibrant after rain. We took some photos to remember our visit, drawing a heart in the pink salt for a fun shot. The lake would be a gorgeous sight at sunrise and sunset.
Back in town, the entrance to Little Desert National Park sits right on the main street of Dimboola. We drove through to explore and learned that parts of the park had recently reopened after a bushfire. The desert offers free camping spots close to town, with great facilities including fire pits, tables, and chairs. Unfortunately, pets aren’ t allowed in the desert. The desert also has a few sandy banks along the river, which would be perfect for a dip on a hot day.
Little Desert’ s varied soils support an incredible range of plants and wildlife, adapted to the harsh conditions of the region. The best time to visit is between late winter and early summer, when wildflowers bloom and the weather is ideal for camping, bushwalking, birdwatching, or four-wheel driving.
On our way out of town, we stopped at the Arkona Silo Art, just 10km north of Dimboola. The artwork pays tribute to local legend Roley Klinge and celebrates the importance of country tennis, once a vital social event in these small rural communities.
Adam, Twyla, and I truly enjoyed our time in Dimboola. It’ s a town full of heart, creativity, and surprises. Inspiring, quirky, and artsy – Dimboola is one destination you should add to your travel list.
