There’ s been some upheaval within the caravan industry. In late November, Queensland manufacturer Zone RV went into voluntary liquidation, with gutted customers left wondering if they had lost it all. One young family was reported to have dropped $ 168,000 on a new Zone RV van, just one of more than 100 other customers who also appear set to lose their money and their dreams.

Echoes of the Tango Caravans fiasco rang through the industry, though we are still waiting to learn more. Administrator Cor Cordis is, reportedly, operating the business in hopes it will not have to go into liquidation, but the more likelier scenario is that the customer money – millions of dollars, likely – is gone, having probably been used to prop up the business. For many Australians, it will be a sad Christmas indeed.

Time will tell how this will impact the wider industry, but right now, it’ s the people that matter, and I include the 250 or so Zone employees who were made redundant without entitlements in that sentiment.

For everyone else, wherever your travels take you, I hope you stay safe and well this festive season. With luck, 2026 will be kinder to many of us.
