Here’ s a question for you: what is the largest island on planet Earth? Hands up if you thought the answer was Australia. If you ask Google that question, it will tell you that Greenland is considered the largest island in the world, even though Australia is about 3.6 times bigger and is a land mass surrounded by water. However, Australia is too large to be technically considered an island. It is, in fact, a continent.
Australia is indeed a land of extremes, both natural and manmade. Wherever you go, you can usually find something remarkable and unique to our country. Some of them are quite grand in scale.
So as you travel around on your Christmas holiday this year, here are a few interesting locations for you to visit that are truly on a grand scale.
It doesn’ t look like much but this is Australia’ s longest bridge( pic: Worldkings).
THE LARGEST ROCK?
Many people would think that the largest rock in Australia is Uluru, but they’ d be wrong. The correct answer is Mt Augustus, about 1000km north of Perth. Don’ t get me wrong, Uluru is a very impressive hunk of rock, but Mt Augustus is actually 1.5 times the size of the more famous central Australian monolith.
It may not be Australia’ s biggest rock but Uluru is always an impressive sight.
