LETTERS FROM THE ROAD

IMPACT TO PEDESTRIANS
I enjoy your mag and articles, thank you! One point regarding bull bars( GoRV # 105) that appears to have been missed is the impact on pedestrians in the event of an accident. Given so many massive 4WDs spend most of their time in the city, this is a real concern. Kris
Thanks for your letter, Kris. You make a fair point. About 15 years ago, the federal government even pushed to ban bull bars entirely because of this issue. – Ed
QUEST FOR A NEW VAN
I read through your list of your 10 favourite vans. As someone who is just getting into caravans with the idea of buying one in a few years for a big trip, the list was an eyeopener in terms of the variety that’ s available. I didn’ t realise there were so many manufacturers in Australia.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for someone who loves the idea of getting a van but has no idea where to start?
James Henderson
Welcome to the world of caravans, James. Start by deciding where you want to travel and work backwards. Develop a list of the‘ must haves’ that you’ ll need to support your travels to those destinations, whether it’ s a far-flung campsite where you won’ t find an electrical connection for love or money, or coastal holiday parks where water and power are easier to come by.
Pay close attention to weights. There’ s not much point researching and then finding the perfect van only to realise your vehicle can’ t tow it. Also, seriously consider purchasing from an established manufacturer with a solid track record. – Ed
