TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
We strolled around Maggie’ s property admiring the pheasants and local produce, before returning to our caravan park. With hot air balloon rides launching right next door to our campsite, the Barossa truly felt like the ultimate countryside escape.
Further north, Wentworth, NSW, offered a mix of history and rugged landscapes. We toured the Old Wentworth Gaol, wandered the Perry Sandhills – a surreal pocket of desert – and sampled delicious meals at the local pubs and bakery. The highlight, though, was the town’ s Military Museum, where we were handed headsets that guided us through each fascinating exhibit. It was a small space but packed with many interesting stories. We also appreciated that Twyla was welcome to join us.
Inglewood, Vic, gave us a step back in time. We met Lisa, owner of a beautifully restored threestory house built in 1881, a property we recognised from Restoration Australia. Between vintage shopping and learning about local history at the Eucalyptus Museum, we discovered a town that beautifully showcased heritage with heart.
Finally, Dimboola, Vic, offered us riverside tranquillity and a touch of quirkiness at the Dimboola Imaginarium, a converted bank from 1909 that now serves as both a gift shop and Airbnb. Its co-owner, Jamie, shared the building’ s rich history and even let us peek into the old safe. A drive out to the Pink Lake and Little Desert National Park made this town visit complete.
It’ s been a monumental year filled with new experiences, friendly faces, and endless Aussie charm. As we look ahead to 2026, one thing’ s for certain: Australia still has plenty more to explore, and we can’ t wait to hit the road again.
