Fuel. Without it, our cars are pretty great lawn ornaments. In the current climate, is there a part of me that wishes I’ d jumped aboard the EV bandwagon already? Sure. But until scientists work out how to grow money on trees, we are all stuck with our petrol and diesel-burning carriages, watching with detached horror as the price for a litre of refined oil climbs ever higher.

We are still waiting for the full picture to unfold, of course. Calmer heads within the RV industry believe that once fuel prices stabilise, RVers and potential buyers will factor in higher prices and accept them as the‘ new normal’. How the situation will affect the northern migration this winter, well, even those calmer heads admit that parks and other tourism providers are going to hurt and, in fact, are feeling it already.

Things are quiet elsewhere the industry, though there are areas – particularly closer to major city centres – where dealers are still reporting strong enquiry and foot traffic.

The bigger issue: fuel certainty. I’ ve heard of plenty of RVers cancelling their plans for fear of becoming stuck far from home because all the servos have run dry. Let’ s collectively hope things don’ t get that bad …
